Code Enforcement

The City Council has adopted ordinances specifically designed to ensure the absence of blight and nuisances and to maintain a clean environment for all Lincoln residents. The Code Enforcement branch of the Development Services Department was created to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. We help maintain and improve the quality of this City by:

  • Administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of the Municipal Code and land use requirements.
  • Working with residents, neighborhood associations, public service agencies and other City departments to facilitate voluntary compliance with City laws and codes and to establish community priorities for enforcement programs.

The Code Enforcement staff is charged with helping to control nuisances such as illegal signage, dumping, abandoned or inoperable vehicles, and zoning violations. Zoning violations include unlawful use of land, illegal street vendors, continuous yard sales (only one per year is allowed), and illegal garage conversions. Removal of illegally dumped debris or accumulated trash and junk is also a primary function of Code Enforcement. Officers also serve to abate abandoned or inoperable vehicles on private property.

The violator of a City code is usually given the opportunity to voluntarily comply with the law and correct the situation within a reasonable period. If the violator has not complied with the compliance order within the specified time, the Code Enforcement section will take corrective action to remedy the problem.

To report illegally dumped debris, accumulated trash and junk, abandoned/inoperable vehicles, or zoning violations, please contact us using the information found below. When e-mailing a complaint, please be sure to include the following information:

  • Address of complaint
  • Type of complaint
  • Name of resident (if known)
  • Your name and phone number

Please include as much information as possible so that we may enforce the violation accurately.
