The following are the four basic forms of Child Care uses allowed in the City:
• Small Family Day Care Home (definition in Chapter 18.61.020, section B1.(a))
- Eight (8) or fewer children, - Permitted in all residential areas,
- Regulated by the State
• Large Family Day Care Home (definition in Chapter 18.61.020, section B1.(b))
- Seven (7) to Fourteen (14) children allowed,
- Permitted in all residential areas,
- Requires Administrative Review by City Staff including the Planning, Building and Fire Departments, - Regulated by the State and the City
• Day Care Center (definition in Chapter 18.61.020, section B2)
- Includes infant centers, preschools, and extended day care facilities,
- Requires issuance of a Conditional Use Permit with approval through the City’s Planning Commission – if approved allowed in all Zoning Districts,
- Regulated by the State and the City
• Employer-Sponsored Child Care Center (defined in Chapter 18.61.020, section B3)
- Includes any Child Care facility at the employer’s site exclusively for the care of children of that employer,
- Requires issuance of a Conditional Use Permit with approval through the City’s Planning Commission – if approved allowed only in the Industrial, Public/Quasi-Public and Open Space zoning Districts,
- Regulated by the State and the City.
